Vision
Discipleship and the
Local Church
Every Christian is a disciple. Every disciple is a minister. We are all called to follow Jesus and serve him by bringing his blessing to the world.
We are all wired up differently, with different gifts, experience, personalities and at different stages of life.
So how do we grow as disciples?
Bible Based
The Bible is our textbook. Everything we teach is based on understanding the Biblical text. Though we have other textbooks to helps us in specific areas of study, we really want to encourage you to deepen and widen your reading of the Word of God.
While our main course requires use of scholarly translations such as the NIV or ESV we have been keen to promote accessible translations that help us in reading the Bible and sharing it with our friends. Take a look at our Easy Read Bible and our new NIrV Bible. These help us to share our faith with our friends or grow in our reading of the Bible if this is new to us.
During the course of studies, whether online or in person, we will direct you in some study of Church history, Biblical background and Doctrine but we will always come back to the study of the Bible as our authority and foundation.
Local Church
The School for Discipleship was created by a local church in Bournemouth that wanted to provide accessible training. We are accountable to the local church and funded by them. Part of our training centre at Woodbury Avenue is also a church plant and community outreach. This helps us to keep focused on the importance of theological teaching for practice ministry in the area.
Our vision is to make accessible, Bible based, local church training available much more widely. The development on online resources helps us to offer teaching that can be flexibly accessed by Churches anywhere in the world.
